Successive divinations and other modes of investigations convinced His Holiness that the propitiation of Dolgyal only invites Kali Devi’s displeasure, a fact also confirmed by Nechung. This is also a well known fact among the seniors of Drepung Monastery. His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama’s secret biography The Sealed Secrets also reveals this fact.
[More on this is covered in another section of the website on the 5th Dalai Lama and Dolgyal.]
It was Nechung who reported about Dolgyal to the 13th Dalai Lama. Usually, Nechung scornfully refers to Dolgyal as ‘Ase Kyampo’, the son of La Agya [A stands for La Agya and Se stands for son while Kyampo means an aimless wonderer] who roams around aimlessly. It was Nechung who also warned His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama about Dolgyal, and in due course of time reported the truth about Dolgyal to His Holiness. These facts can be understood from the successive talks of His Holiness.
It is mentioned in the biography of His Holiness the Great 5th Dalai Lama [Du Ku Lai Goesang], that shortly after the untimely death of Tulku Dakpa Gyaltsen, Nechung asked His Holiness the 5th Dalai Lama to move to Potala Palace to avoid inauspicious omens associated with Tulku Dakpa Gyaltsen’s birth as a perfidious spirit. Considering these and many other points, the claim that Nechung had motivated Dolgyal to arise as a wrathful protector is only a concocted story which falls short of any sensible explanation.
