Vaishravana is averse to the propitiation of Gyalchen

[On 8th April, 1983, His Holiness gave a talk on Shugden at Gyuto Monastery of Tezinghang Tibetan settlement to an audience of around 500 monks after finishing the empowerments of Guhyasamaja, Chakrasamvara and Vajra Bairava. The following is an excerpt from that talk.]

Tulku Dakpa Gyaltsen had received lots of teachings from Panchen Lobsang Choegyal whom he considered his principal teacher. It is said that after his Tulku Dakpa Gyaltsen’s new birth as a wrathful being— Dolgyal, he set out for Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, the main seat of Panchen Lobsang Choegyal. As Dolgyal tried to enter Tashi Lhunpo, the eight deities of Vaishravana surrounded the monastery and did not let him in. This is widely known and stated in texts that validate Shugden as infallible [such as Trijang Rinpoche’s commentary on the Eulogy of Dolgyal]. That happened not because of a very good reason. Instead of inviting him to the seat of his teacher Panchen Lobsang Choegyal, Vaishravana and his retinues blocked the way and stopped him from entering Tashi Lhunpo Monastery. That Dolgyal was not allowed to enter Tashi Lhunpo is, philosophically speaking, a reason with implied meaning. If this story is not interpreted properly, it would only add more fuel to the existing controversy.
